Z.C. Cooper is a Scottish writer, director, and educator whose work explores crime, power, and moral ambiguity.

Based in Dundee, Zoe is currently undertaking a practice-based PhD in Scottish crime fiction and adaptation theory. She was one of the first graduates of the MLitt in Creative Writing and Forensic Investigation—a pioneering programme that bridged narrative craft with criminological insight—and her work continues to straddle the line between truth, story, and evidence.

Her writing blends the grit of procedural drama with layered psychological insight, moving between page and screen to ask what happens when the person adapting the story is also the one inventing it.

She works across higher education and the arts, supporting students in creative writing, performance, and production, with a background in stage management, directing, and sound engineering. Whether she’s in a theatre, a studio, or a seminar room, Zoe brings a collaborative, curious energy to every project.

She is currently developing her debut novel and TV series, Be Nice or Leave.
